EC for "overweight" people

Hey all,

I've never considered myself overweight and until recently my BMI has been about 22, being about 5'4 and 130 lbs. Yet sometime within the last year, I've gained 20 lbs, maybe due to my antidepressant but hopefully just due to my previous desk job.

My monogamous partner and I had sex 3 days ago and the condom broke, the semen ending up inside of me. I had just finished my period that day, but even though the chance was rare, I took plan b just to be safe.

Now I'm remembering that there is a chance that that could have been less effective because my BMI is now in the overweight area, even though, to me, I do not look overweight and am actively trying to bring it back down.

Do you think I have cause for concern? I know you can't tell me for sure but I am currently on a work visa in Australia as an America citizen so it's not so easy to rush in somewhere tomorrow and get an iud implanted. Also, that same night we had unprotected sex, I had plans to start oral contraceptives and did so, if that means anything.

Thanks.

Vaginal burning

I just reunited with my boyfriend after a 5 month abstinence. He is living in Australia so I just got finished with 20+ hours on a plane. We have had great sex but my vagina is burning after we finish and when he thought it was due to poor lubrication, he put lube around my labia and it burned like hell. I do not have an STI and just went in for my annual Pap smear.

Since I'm in a foreign country, (im American) what would you recommend? I'd like to wait a couple days to see if its due to the dry airplane or the lack of sex, but I also don't want it to get worse/would like to have sex with my boyfriend since it has been so long.

Any advice on how long I should wait or other signs I should look out for?

Thanks.

Writers as narcissists

Do you think that all writers are narcissists, as George Orwell and others have claimed? Are writers or wannabe authors just fooling themselves when they think their words can change the world?

Below average intelligence?

So I've always thought I was a relatively smart cookie, at least enough to think critically and creatively, but I just took the gre (graduate entrance exam for those who don't know) and scored better than only 40% of those who take it. Now I feel like a dummy. I'm okay with this right now because at the moment all my first grad choices either don't require the gre or are in Australia.

Has anything happened to you that has caused you to question your intelligence? Have any of you taken the gre and can offer words of encouragement that I'm not as stupid as this test just made me feel?

Pretend you are me. What would you do?

Things I want:
I want my work to be challenging and I want to work with people/help people
I would enjoy connecting these social issues with local environmental issues
I prefer not to have a 100% desk job
Concerned about climate change and social inequality
I want to use my creativity in my job as well (with communication and ideas)

What would you "do" as a "profession"?

Non desk jobs

For those of you with non-desk jobs (or at least use a desk less than 50% of your time) what do you do? Do you like it?

I can't handle a 9-5 desk job anymore.
Luckily my background is in environmental studies so after this year is up, I either want to work with food, marine conservation/education, or start some project on my own. What should I try next? Serious and non-serious answers welcome.

After work hobbies

What's your favorite solo activity to do after work? I like writing but I'm looking for a more hands on hobby after the sun goes down.
(A lot of my coworkers knit but I think I'd be terrible it. Although maybe I should give it a shot...)

Friends and laptop

1. So I moved to a small town about 3 months ago and there aren't many people my age around here. There's one group of 20 something's I've hung out with a few times but they've all been here at least a year and their friend group is established. For most things--except a Super Bowl party--I've had to text the one number I have and ask if anything is going on for the night. Ex: I did that just now, she replied with that there is a game night at 8. I asked if she minded i come along and I got no response.
I'm not really used to making friends this way as the new kid. I don't smell and I'm not obnoxious. Is it cool if I just continue to ask about things in this way and show up or should I take these social hints and find new friends?

2. I've had this MacBook Pro for about 4 years and I think it may have taken its last beating when I spilled cider on some of it the other night. Now that the battery has died, it's not recognizing the charger and is still dead. Any home remedies I can try to make it work? Magic spells? Or should I find a repair shop in this small town/give in and get a new one?
